The Unryu-in in Kyoto is one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen so far. This is what I saw entering in one of the many rooms: a giant window, created by the opening of two shoji, that shows the wonderful japanese autumnal garden lighted up by lanterns and spotlights. Everything is perfect and enjoying this enchanting view is a unique experience. The real purpose of this room is to show four different elements of the same garden through four small windows in the center of the shoji: the tsubaki tree, the lantern, the momiji tree and the pine tree. Anyway I decided to capture this scene to show the beauty of the garden at a glance, while keeping in the lateral windows the tsubaki tree with its white flowers (on the left) and the pine tree (on the right). I’ve published in this site other photos of the enchanting Unryu-in to show the ability of japanese architects and artists of merging the accuracy of designing spaces with the respect for nature and its beauty and fragility.
I took this shot with my rare and dear Pentax smc K 30mm f/2.8 using an aperture value of f/8 in order to preserve the details of every plane. The total absence of wind has been a lucky chance to capture this image with a long exposure of 15 secs, while keeping the ISO just at a value of 160.
