In the northern prefecture of Kyoto there is a small town called Ine no funaya. The most interesting aspect of this place are the fishermen houses: they are built at sea level to use the “ground floor” as a garage for the boats and as a yard, while the first floor has the use of a common house. This traditional village, whose style dates back to the Edo period, has a particular charm and atmosphere: for this reason it’s been used as a set for movies and TV productions.
This shot is an HDR tonemap of three exposures taken handheld, and then accurately retouched to look as natural as possible.
